Art In the Paint celebrated the grand opening of its first court repurpose in the City of South Fulton, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring special guest Renee Montgomery, co-owner and former player of the Atlanta Dream, on Saturday, May 15. The event took place in the Sable Chase community basketball court. The event was attended by Montgomery, South Fulton dignitaries including Mayor William "Bill" Edwards, District 5 Councilman Corey A. Reeves, and Judge Shermela Williiams, as well as community members.

In March and April 2021, Art In The Paint worked in conjunction with Councilman Corey A. Reeves and staff, The Renee Montgomery Foundation, RCW Renovations, See Beautiful, Serve Financial, Sherwin Williams, KDE Consulting and Development, Georgia Stand Up, and. Macaroni Kid College Park * East Point * Morrow to refurbish and repurpose the sole basketball court in the Sable Chase Community by commissioning a mural designed by the artist Antonette Velasquez of Aveladesign who uniquely created "Renee's Dream," to provide a beautiful and safe space for kids and community members to play and promote community pride.

Art In The Paint, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit corporation whose mission combines athletics, art, and activism. "Already a huge fan of Renee Montgomery, we were impressed with her commitment to the social justice movement and wanted to shine a light on her as an icon in our communities," says AR Cooper of Art In The Paint.

Montgomery opted out of the 2020 WNBA season to focus her attention on the social justice movement, and subsequently stepped away from a successful 11-year professional career highlighted by a Sixth Woman of the Year award and a pair of WNBA championships. Within less than a year, the 34-year-old WNBA star became co-owner and vice president of the WNBA's Atlanta Dream.

“She is like a modern-day Muhammad Ali," says Cooper.

The court refurbishment in the Sable Chase Community was spearheaded by Councilman Corey A. Reeves, City of South Fulton District 5.  Councilman Reeves says, "We are proud to collaborate with Mr. Cooper and Art In The Paint to bring quality arts programming and beautiful artwork by local artists to our community."

Art In The Paint founder, AR Cooper, a graduate of South Fulton's Westlake High School, was presented with a proclamation. May 15, 2021 has been declared "Art In The Paint. Day."
