Alliance Theatre Presents Toddler Takeover & Pre-K Playfest

THIS INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL FOR THE VERY YOUNG WILL SHOWCASE EIGHT DIFFERENT PERFORMANCES DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR CHILDREN 5 AND UNDER


The Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce the 2021 Toddler Takeover & Pre-K Playfest as a virtual streaming experience May 10 – 16, 2021.  This one-of-a-kind virtual arts festival features productions from all over the world that are developed specifically for children who are newborn through 5 years old.  Audiences will have the chance to watch, listen, sing, play, and create with activity guides, audio adventures, and virtual workshops to go along with each production, all from their own home. The festival includes filmed productions by South Korea’s Brush Theatre, Canada’s WeeFestival of Arts & Culture for Early Years, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Alliance Theatre’s Kathy & Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young, and the Alliance’s family concerts.  Toddler Takeover is on sale now at www.alliancetheatre.org/tto2021

Doodle POP

A mischievous duo starts to doodle… and ends up creating a whole imaginative world! They invite us along on their sea adventure with a tiny little turtle. What will happen as we follow their vivid drawings into this beautiful watery world, and will they return the turtle to the sea safely? This touching and playful non-verbal show uses live musicians who perform the accompanying score and sound effects, stunning interactive animation projections and live whiteboard drawings, and an abundance of theatrical imagination.

Old Man and the River

A grumpy little old man lives in his little house in the woods by the river. Every day is the same and he likes it this way – until one day, a magical creature leaps into his world and everything changes! This beautifully designed puppetry work performed without words to an enchanting musical score, reveals a storybook world where rivers sing, trees laugh, and curious dragonflies come to visit. With its themes of friendship, communication, play, and adjusting to change, Old Man and the River is perfect for the youngest theatregoer.  Old Man and the River was developed and premiered by Theatre Direct as part of the 2014 WeeFestival of Arts & Culture for Early Years. Since then, it has performed for thousands of children and their families in Toronto, throughout Ontario and across Canada.

In My Granny’s Garden

Inspired by Pearl Cleage and Zaron Burnett Jr.’s children’s book of the same name, In My Granny’s Garden invites the youngest audiences to explore the glory of growing your own food. Watch a tiny seed become a field of corn, green beans, collard greens, and bright red tomatoes. Step into a visual feast inspired by world renowned artist Radcliffe Bailey’s original paintings, and discover the one superpower that fuels Granny’s garden. This streaming play promises to leave you nourished in body and soul.

Join us on a floor to floor adventure, meeting and celebrating with a variety of friends who all call The Apartment Building home. Surprises hide behind each door — all you need to do is (Knock, Knock) and listen closely.

From the talk on the sidewalks to the whoosh of the MARTA trains, join us for a rhythmic and tasty trip through the epicenter of vegan cooking in Atlanta.

A Woody Guthrie concert for children! – A family friendly concert event featuring American folk music legend Woody Guthrie's classic children's songs. Drawn primarily from Guthrie's iconic album Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child, this cycle of songs captures the whimsy, joy, and wonder of childhood in three chords & a whole lot of fun. Join Woody and his dog Arlo as they serenade Atlanta families with songs that celebrate the human spirit.

Beautiful Blackbird Live!

Featuring original music composed by Eugene H. Russell IV and inspired by Ashley Bryan's children's book Beautiful Blackbird this family friendly concert will have you on your feet celebrating the uniqueness of each and every one of us. Shake your tailfeathers and dance to the music!

Music for the Very Young: Meet the Voice

Learn from a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus how to warm up your body, mind, and voice to sound your best!  Join in fun vocal exercises and even a few yoga poses to get ready for singing.  Fun for all ages!

For one week this spring, children who are newborn through 5 years old will experience a one-of-a-kind virtual arts festival featuring productions from around the world.
