The dinosaurs have returned from extinction and have taken residence at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, GA (located at 1500 Tara Pl, Hampton, GA 30228) through August 16th at the FIRST-EVER Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and with dinosaur fans at heart, the nation's best touring dinosaur exhibit has transformed itself into an exciting experience where everyone can have some engaging prehistoric fun from the safety of their vehicles. Your dino crew can time-travel and enjoy roughly an hour-long ride back in time. The interactive drive-thru experience features over 70 moving and life-like dinosaurs and a 50 foot-long Megalodon! But keep your eyes ahead to watch out for the swinging tail of our 80 foot-long Spinosaurus!
You'll encounter some of the most enormous dinosaurs ever to roam the earth, and some of the eeriest marine creatures that lurked the ocean's depths, from the safety of your family vehicle. To amplify your quest's excitement, you can visit the Jurassic Quest homepage to listen to an online audio tour that will lead you through this dinosaur safari. At this time, Drive-Thru tickets MUST be purchased online here. And each car MUST HAVE a Drive-Thru ticket to enter the event. The tour costs $49 per vehicle (9 people or less). It's $80 for passenger vehicles that seat 9-15 people. (Vans must be under 10' tall and less than 25' long. Tickets should be purchased in advance online. Hours are daily, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Time-slots and hours will vary by day. (Police, Military, Medical Personnel and First Responders save 10% off with valid ID.)
The tour is set up pretty much chronologically and begins with a short Triassic scene before it moves on to Jurassic and Cretaceous's as the main showing. They saved the best for last with the Megalodon at the end. The kids were in total awe, and so was I. I believe it is pretty close to the right size of a real one, and that made it my favorite station. I liked the idea of being able to show the kids how gargantuan these great sharks could get. Another perk was the baby dinos. You can look at them and talk to them, but no touching these cute little guys.
The next stop is the gift shop, which has a pricey lineup of balloons and activity packs. The best value was the 6-piece Dinosaur Explore set for $25 in which we decided to indulge. After all, we haven’t been spending much money lately at home. I’m glad we did because we were able to continue the learning at home with a hands-on activity. It included an egg that hatched in water after 24 hours, a fossil kit, a dinosaur, an activity book, and supplies like pipe cleaners and googly eyes to create your thein dinosaur crafts.
The tour can get a bit redundant for us adults, but the kids will enjoy it from start to finish. Once you pass the gift shop, a photographer will take a shot of your dino crew inside your vehicle. He'll hand you a card to download at home. This is a great keepsake to remember the time when you saw dinosaurs during a pandemic.
