Premiere Atlanta Venues Offer Tons of Educational Resources

By Kristen Wright-Matthews, Editor & Publisher, Macaroni Kid College Park East Point Morrow September 16, 2018

Each year, World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium and Center for Civil and Human Rights invite local educators, including homeschool teachers, to visit the attractions for free to learn about educational and field trip opportunities. Although I am not currently a credentialed teacher, I enjoy attending this event because I am very active in the education of my new middle schooler, as well as I teach my toddler at home. I attended this event last weekend with my husband and children, and although we've been to each of these venues before, it is always enjoyable because there is so much to see and learn. each time is like the first.

Each one of these amazing venues offers a variety of programs and resources for parents, teachers, and schools to take advantage of. Here are a few photos from our visit.

Georgia Aquarium educational experience is an opportunity for students to discover the aquatic realm in an immersive learning environment. The Aquarium's Education Department strives to make the educational experience an extension of the classroom as all of the Aquarium’s education programs are aligned with Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). So whether your students enjoy one of our instructor-led education programs or they explore the Aquarium on their own with our self-guided program, their experience will infuse with Georgia Performance Standards. More information on its education resources can be found on its website.

The Center for Civil and Human Rights is an engaging cultural attraction that connects the American Civil Rights Movement to today’s Global Human Rights Movements. The individual galleries engage visitors through a combination of powerful imagery, compelling artifacts, and poignant storytelling. Visitors leave inspired and empowered to join the ongoing dialogue about human rights in their communities. The Center welcomes educational visits and offers special pricing for Georgia state tax-exempt groups, Georgia Title 1 schools, In-state and out-of-state college groups. See their website for details.

World of Coca-Cola welcomes school field trips throughout the year, and dozens of Georgia Performance Standards can be fulfilled at the attraction. They offer a teacher toolkit on its website, which outlines all of those Standards and provides pre- and post-visit activities to assist with lesson planning.
