Kings and Gents Accessories

Created by young, innovative designers Jabez and Christopher Jenkins. Jabez, 14 and Christopher, 12 started sewing with their mom when they were ages 3 and 5. They choose, cut and sew the fabrics, and make most key decisions about their line of bow ties and other accessories. What began as a way for their mom to protect them from the machine while she was sewing pillows has turned into a lifestyle for the young brothers. At 9 years old, Jabez asked if he could use the scraps of fabric from the pillows to make 30 bow ties for boys and 30 hair bows for girls for Career Day. When his inventory sold out in minutes, The Jenkins' Family knew they had something special and Kings and Gents Accessories was born.

Afrocentric Montessori was created in June 2019, after spending years making materials for my classroom to represent my students in the classroom. The intention of Afrocentric Montessori is to create handcrafted wooden learning materials to affirm and uplift Black children through play. What is special about my materials is that each of my pieces is rooted in intentionality by drawing connections to African history and culture.  The work I do is important because there is not another business that is focused on the importance of African history and culture for early learners. My wish for families and teachers is to continue to instill in their children and loved ones pride of their rich history and cultivating joy through play. With each product, you will receive a learning guide to provide tips about how to extend learning with my products through extension activities.

Teach your little one about the continent of Africa with their very own wooden puzzle. This 6 piece puzzle can also serve as color recognition for younger children as well as learning about the cardinal directions for older children. Included with this puzzle is a hand-painted wooden peg family set and two laminated learning sheets about the five geographical regions of Africa through this worksheet. This set is scaffolded for children who need additional support with their writing. The entire puzzle is hand-cut and stained with various non-toxic kid-safe paints and finished with a coating of beeswax and olive oil. Due to the handcrafted style of each puzzle, variations in size, shape, and color are to be expected.

These pinewood Adinkra playdough stamps are not only a great introduction to learning about West African concepts and principles but also a meaningful child-centered approach to teaching culture and identity. These stained wooden stamps are 2 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches thick.  Perfect for active hands.

Develop your child or student’s counting ability, number sense and problem-solving strategies through play and imagination with this pine wood tens frame. The tens frame is a helpful resource to illustrate numbers less than or equal to ten when teaching addition and subtraction.  Once children are able to visualize 1 -10 then they can start building problem-solving strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems within the context of 10. This set comes with a 10 frame and 10 wooden peg people. This hand-cut and stained board is 6” X 11”.
