Help Your Child Create Vision and a Keepsake with a 2021 Dream Board

Dream boards are a visual reminder of your goals

By Kristen Wright-Matthews, Editor & Publisher, Macaroni Kid College Park * East Point * Morrow January 18, 2021

Making dream boards are a fun activity for families to share their thoughts and feeling with one another while empowering themselves to pursue them. Dream boards provide a visual reminder that can be used to help keep track of your progress and also make great keepsakes to cherish for years to come.

All you need is a poster board, an old magazine or two, and some glue. The most important tool is your imagination. Think about what you want and let your imagination take over!

What you will need:

  • A large piece of construction paper or poster board.
  • Old magazines, Internet pictures, stickers, etc. Websites such as www.istockphoto.com or www.unsplash.com are great sites to explore.
  • Glue or other adhesive.

What to do:

Find pictures that motivate you or make you happy and cut them out. You can even divide the board into four sections.

Here are some ideas for what to include:

Do: What do you want to do this summer? What do you enjoy doing? What would you like to learn to do?

Be: What do you want to be when you grow up? What kind of person do you want to be? Find photos of smiling faces, people helping others, etc.)

Go: Where do you dream of going? What’s your favorite place to visit? How will you get there?

Love: Who do you love? Family? Pets? What makes you feel loved?

Avoid filling your board with toys and material possessions. And when you're done, hang your dream board in your room or a common wall. It will serve as a daily reminder of your goals!

We are so sad that we couldn't host our annual vision board party this year but we hope to see you all soon. Here is a link to coverage from last year's event.
