We Got Our License: to Chill, that is!

Margarataville at Lanier Islands offered snow much nonstop fun this Winter & there's more for Spring

February 22, 2020

My family attends events week after week to share the excitement with others and offer you ideas to engage with your own families. Some we enjoy more than others. I have to say that early into the second month of 2020, we had found one of our Top 3 venues /events. Two weeks ago we were "licensed to chill" at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands and that's what we did.

Set along more than a half-mile of white sandy beach on beautiful Lake Lanier, Margaritaville at Lanier Islands is a lakefront paradise where visitors can escape year-round. Special for the winter season, Margaritaville at Lanier Islands offers one of the largest winter wonderlands.Throughout Margaritaville’s License to Chill Snow Island enjoy carnival rides, a snow play area, and Parrot Mountain snow slide. Bigger and better than ever, the 6 million dollar investment is one of the longest winter snow slides in North America. Parrot Mountain sits eight stories tall and 575 feet long—almost the length of two football fields combined!

Literally, from the time we walked into the gate until the time we left it was nonstop adrenaline-rushing fun. We started out with some of the carnival rides. The first ride we visited was called A Bear Affair and it kicked off our afternoon of memory-making and nonstop smiles. The attendant was so cute as he engaged with us riders. His name escapes me right now. Each time we whisked by him, we could hear him shouting "Weeeee." That made my whole family chuckle. From there we rode the carousel and the ferris wheel and we couldn’t help but to stop and grab some of those delicious French fries.

But once my boys caught at glimpse of the snow play area they had to stop. We played there for a while and headed to Parrott Mountain where the fun had really just begun. I’m in my 40s and it was the first time that I had ever done anything like that in my life. I was OK with it until I realized that I was sliding down an 8-story hill attached to my three-year-old. I was screaming and he was having the time of his life. I must admit that when I got down to the bottom I felt so invigorated, or maybe I was just happy that I was still alive. But seriously, I have never felt so "free". That was really fun!

My oldest son (a tween), needless to say enjoyed it very much but he’s always been a daredevil. My husband and kids slid down multiple times as I watched from afar. After they had enough, we proceeded to ride more of the carnival rides including the the bumper cars, carousel, roller coaster, and more. Of course they wanted to stop by the snow play area again to throw snowballs at one another and also at mom and dad. We allowed them relish the moment. It was satisfying to see the smiles on their faces. I see those all the time, but there’s nothing like the joy a child gets from playing in snow. As a mom you wonder if when an event advertises "fun for the whole family" if it is true, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference in my boys' ages while we were there and my heart melted over and over again.

I have to mention the funnel cake, my husband's favorite part. I mean you can't go to a carnival without having a funnel cake. And this man has never met one, or any other sweet treat he didn't like. We didn’t get a chance to ice-skating because we went on Super Bowl Sunday and had to get back home to entertain, but will definitely be using pulling out our license to chill at Margaritaville again this year. Next time, we are going to plan to take advantage of the hotel accommodations. But before that we are excited to enjoy watch in some of their spring activities.
