February: A Month of History and Celebration

February 14, 2020

From Black History Month to Valentine's Day to Mardi Gras, February is a month rich in history and celebration. I think it's awesome that it's a leap year and we are getting an extra day to savor all of the good times with family and friends. So far, we've had a really full month and are looking forward to lots more family fun as we get further into 2020.

Just a recap: In January, we hosted our Create and Meditate in 2020 Youth Vision Board Party. We had 4 amazing youth entrepreneurs on our panel and about 50 attendees. Our friends at 11 Alive's My East Point News even came out to cover the event. Here's their story. If you missed, you'll want to keep watch as we are planning to do a mid-year check-in this summer to make sure our young people stay on track and are reaching their goals.

On our end, we are working very hard. On Feb. 7, we hosted our first Monday Funday Family Fun Night of the year. Honestly, it wasn't a huge hit because it was a somewhat cold night. With that in mind, we have decided to relaunch in Spring on April 11 (the day before Easter) so "Save the Date!" It will be held at Marco's Pizza in Hapeville (832 Virginia Ave.) from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. On that day, we will also host a Spring Pizza Party. We'll have pizza-making, crafts, treats, performances, and party entertainment. In the words of my 3-year-old, "it will be epic!" Last Saturday, we had the Valentine's Day event and it was so fun. It was the largest crowd we've had. The kids decorated their chef hats and also made Valentine's cards for the seniors at Christian City in Union City. We will not be hosting any events in March, but once we hit April, hold on to your seats. We are working with local venues, professional sports teams, and more to bring you lots of enjoyment. We are so excited!

We've had three giveaways already this month, Dinosaur Adventures, Monster Jam, Monster Energy Supercross World Championships, and believe me when I say there is more where that came from. We'll also be sharing MacKid discounts for venues across Georgia in next week's newsletter. Make sure to check our calendar often because if you blink, you'll miss out on the fun we are dishing up. This week, we'll be seeing Blippi Live at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. My little loves this guy so I can't wait to share the photos on Facebook and Instagram

We're currently working on our Spring Fun guide, Summer Camp and Activities guide, and the Mom Boss Marketplace, a guide that highlights local moms and women in business. If you know anyone hosting a spring event, summer camp, or a local entrepreneur mom, tell them about us. We'll also be highlighting youth entrepreneurs so if you know one, send them our way too! I can be reached at kristenwm@macaronikid.com for any and all business and/or inquiries. Please feel free to send me an email and give me feedback on what you like, don't like, and what you want more of. I know it looks like it's all fun and games but a lot of work goes into the newsletters, website, guides, etc, so I'd rather put my time where its best utilized. This mom stays busy and quite often tired, unfortunately!

Well, I just wanted to check in because I don't get to often. I hope you all had a happy Valentine's Day, but keep your hearts open because Tuesday, Feb. 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day. The world as a whole could use more love, but let's start right here with us in South Atlanta.

Have a great long weekend!
