🌆 Tips for Enjoying the Parade on the Southwest Trail

The Southwest Trail offers one of the most scenic and spacious viewing experiences. Here are tips to make your night magical:

1. Arrive Early

The Southwest Trail fills quickly. Arriving before sunset gives you time to find a comfortable spot.

2. Bring Glow Gear

Kids love glow sticks, LED bracelets, and light‑up toys. They help you stay visible and add to the magic. Pick up some in advance from the Dollar Tree or similar store.

3. Wear Comfortable Shoes

The parade route is long, and you will walk or stand for extended periods.

4. Pack Water & Snacks

Food vendors are available; however, having your own snacks keeps kids happy. We all know the saying, "God bless the child that has it own". Smile

5. Make Your Lantern Ahead of Time

Lantern‑making stations are available, but crafting at home ensures you have something ready to shine.

6. Use MARTA or Rideshare

Parking near the Southwest Trail can be limited. Public transit makes the experience smoother.

7. Stay for the Final Jam Session

The Lee + White finale is one of the most energetic parts of the night, full of music, dancing, and celebration.

🏙️ Why Families Love the Lantern Parade

The Lantern Parade is one of Atlanta’s most family‑friendly events on the Southwest Trail because it blends:

  • Art and creativity
  • Community connection
  • Outdoor adventure
  • Music and performance
  • Kid‑friendly activities

It is a rare event where toddlers, teens, parents, and grandparents can all participate together. The Southwest Trail provides wide, walkable space, making it easy for strollers and wagons.

🎨 Make Your Lantern: Creativity for All Ages

The BeltLine offers lantern‑making stations leading up to the parade, giving families a chance to create glowing masterpieces together. You can also bring your own lantern. Remember, the more creative, the better!

🛍️ Vendor Markets & Community Fun

Along the route, families can enjoy:

  • Food vendors
  • Market stalls
  • The Lee + White Vendor Market
  • The Indie Market Experience

These stops add flavor, shopping, and entertainment to your parade night.

❤️ A Celebration of Atlanta’s Culture & Creativity

The Lantern Parade is a celebration of Atlanta’s artistic soul and the heartbeat of the Southwest Trail. It brings together neighborhoods across the city, highlights local performers, and invites families to participate in a glowing river of light and creativity.

Whether you join the main parade or the Kids Lantern Parade, or both, you will experience a magic which helps Atlanta shine.
